FAQ - frequently asked questions

Here is a selection of frequently asked questions with answers to our QR code generator.

Questions about the Qr code:

A QR code - an abbreviation of Quick Response Code - is a two-dimensional code that can encrypt several thousand characters. It can for example store information about the product the code is attached to or link to a destination URL. When scanning a QR code with a smartphone or tablet, the user will be directed to the destination URL. There are two types of QR Codes: static and dynamic.

There is one main difference between a static and a dynamic QR code. While generating a dynamic QR Code, a generally shorter URL is created on our QRcode.ch-server for the destination URL of the QR Code. Whenever the QR code is scanned, first this shorter URL is called up on our QR-server and then the user is forwarded to the actual destination URL. This method has two major advantages: firstly, the information encoded in a dynamic QR code can be subsequently changed at any time without having to change the QR code itself and, secondly, every time the QR code is scanned, information is gathered and put into statistics.

A QR code consists of dark and light modules arranged in a square and contains the following elements:

Position detection Patterns: placed in three corners to ensure a clear orientation.
Allignment pattern(s): placed in the lower right quarter of the QR code and important for additional orientation, especially for larger QR codes. Depending on the amount of stored data, it can be present multiple times.
Timing Patterns: consist alternately of dark and light modules and always start and end with a dark module. They indicate the size of the data Matrix.
Version Information: provide information about the version of a QR code. There are currently 40 different QR code versions differing in terms of the number of modules and configurations: the smallest version has 21x21 = 441 and the largest 177x177 = 31,329 modules.
Format Information: include information about the error correction level that indicates in percent how much a QR code can be damaged to be still readable by a scanner. There are four levels of error correction: Level L = 7%, Level M = 15%, Level Q = 25%, Level H = 30%. Note, however, that as the level of error correction increases, the amount of stored data decreases.
Data and error-correction area: contains the encoded data itself as well as an amount (determined depending on the error correction level) of error correction data.

Many of the newer smartphones and tablets already have a QR code scanner installed. This allows you to scan a QR code by opening your camera and holding it over a QR code. If your smartphone or tablet does not have such a feature, you can use a scanner app. For those of you, who want an easier way without app installation, just use the scan function QRcode.ch offers.

The easiest way to create a QR code is to use a QR code generator like the one QRcode.ch offers. Simply enter the required information, such as the destination URL, and generate your own dynamic QR Code in a few seconds.

At QRcode.ch you can save the graphics file of your QR code as a png as well as a svg file. These popular formats can be easily opened and printed in high-resolution, so that nothing stands in the way of a good print quality of your QR code.

Your QR code can easily be printed using most printing methods. It is best to make sure that the contrast from the background to your QR code is as high as possible and that the code is easy to recognize. Should this not be the case problems during a scan may occur. You can also color the generated QR code by using a graphics program, but make sure that the code color stands out from the background color. There are no limits to the size of a QR code as long as the scanner can read the image in full format. This is possible with common mobile devices such as smartphones from a code size of 2.5x2.5cm. When you have decided how and where you want to print and distribute your code, pay attention to the sharpness of the print. Especially with textiles you should have a test print made and test it with your smartphone.

We offer our premium members the possibility to generate QR codes fully automatically with an API. Your server requests our server API and gets the QR code returned as an answer.
